Canon Serial Number Year

From The Digital Picture Bryan and Norbert over at TDP think they have deciphered the date codes built into Canon’s newish 10 digital serial numbers. Previous to July 2010, Canon put date codes on all lenses other than EF-S that let you know when the lens was manufactured. From TDP To age a Canon lens using the 10-digital serial number Canon lenses, we dissect the serial number as: DD C SSSSSSS The DD is the key to the date of manufacture of the lens – the date code.

Canon has been stamping date codes on cameras and lenses since about 1960. The first letter, 'U,' means Canon's 3,000 employee, 750,000 sf (75,000 m^2) lens plant in. Can I tell the age of a dslr camera body (5D)? Either by the serial number or another way? There seem to be a few sites that tell a lens' age but not the body. Thanks I think you can pinpoint the age of the camera body within a year or two and determine the shutter count with the astrojargon program.

The long, narrow Canon lens date code chart is shown on the right side of this page. 24 Heures Chrono Saison 2 Vf Torrent Ao Manual Of Fracture Management Hand And Wrist Pdf To Excel. on this page. They have posted what they predict to be the future date codes for Canon lenses.

Please keep in mind that this is a work in progress and may not yet be definitive. Most of my lenses have serial numbers with much less digits than 10!!! In fact only my 70-200 f/2.8L IS II has one. The interesting part is that this specific lens has no date code!!!

So I can determine that it was made in 2011. Which I knew because earlier (2010) lenses were reported to have a date code and. I bought it December. However, the most interesting thing is that my TS-E 17mm L has no date code too and at the same time the serial number contains only 5 digits. In addition the date code continues being used by Canon.

My 35mm 1.4L bought this year has a date code starting with UA which is consistent (A for 2012). So even if they have decoded the year in a 10 digit serial number it is not that useful (at least yet).

Max, Apparently Canon put a date code on their film cameras so I can't see that they would not do it on their digital cameras. I found a T0404 inside the battery compartment on my 1DsMkII would would mean It was manufactured in 2005 and a S0804 in the same spot on my 1DMkII which would put its manufacture date in 2004. Both fall within time frame when the were the current release. I'm actually checking a possible upgrade for my dying out 20D. And I've just laid my eyes on a 1DMKiiN, whose serial number (as provided by the seller) is: DS126111 As far as I know, the factories for Canon lenses are: U = Utsunomiya, Japan F = Fukushima, Japan O = Oita, Japan So there's no factory name starting with D, perhaps there are others for cameras.

I've just emailed the seller asking for further info, no reply yet Cheers, Max Nature photography. Canonloader wrote in A two year old MkIIn with 30K. If you can afford it, snap it up.
